ISTANBUL, TURKEY.-The Contemporary Arts Centre Siemens Sanat, is hosting an exhibition, “Discomfort at the Performance”, the second exhibition of 2008 between 4th March and 25th April. The exhibition will consist of videos and photographs of the works of performance artists Nezaket Ekici, Monali Meher and Jelena Vasiljev. The Artists will give live performances on the opening night, and they will run workshops with different groups of students between 2nd and 5th March. On 6th March performances resulting from the workshops will be put on in Siemens Sanat by the students’ involved..

Mürteza Fidan and T.Melih Görgün, curators of the exhibition “Discomfort at the Performance”, aim to open debate on the questions: “What will happen if the “object-body” that forms the image uses the culture while making the presentation of all that’s temporary during a process?” and “Would the difference in origin include the difference of what has been presented?”

In “Discomfort at the Performance”, Nezaket Ekici , Monali Meher, and Jelena Vasiljev aim to “give back” the forms of expression they took as a deposit from their own origins, and they do this within the official structure of the other culture they live inside.

Mürteza Fidan and T. Melih Görgün said: “This narrative structure is in a process of leaving the symbolic forms behind and making the “image” visible. And it begins to define itself with intimacy, culture, ideology, pleasure, exposure, invisible representation, abolishing the system, manipulation and violence. The body and its production are the main issues.”

The restlessness created by the use of this body-based aesthetic attitude sometimes transforms into the ‘image’ during a movement act that has a wonderfully balanced dose of violence. And sometimes, under an ambiguous mediocrity, it creates very political openings.

During the exhibition the image leaves the body and embraces a new possessing action in the moving image medium and as it is based on determining the moment the exhibition also has a documentary element. The exhibition will be opened to the public on 5th March and will remain open until 25th April everyday between 10:00-19:00.
