MIAMI.- Design Miami/ New York Galleries—a collaboration between New York’s most prestigious design galleries and Design Miami/—presents cutting-edge exhibitions of limited-edition and rare historic design in gallery spaces throughout the city. The exhibitions will be on view from March 25–27, 2008 from 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

The event is the brainchild of eleven galleries that form the core of New York’s design Community. Under the umbrella of Design Miami, the most prominent and substantive forum for limited-edition design, these galleries have united to bring the design conversation back home to their permanent gallery spaces and deliver a striking design component to the sea of art exhibitions that engulf NYC during The Armory Show.

The exhibitions will offer a cross-section of the most significant modern and contemporary design, with subjects ranging from innovation in contemporary lighting and masterworks of modern Dutch design, and the relationship between design and socio-political movements of the 20th century to groundbreaking retrospectives on influential figures such as Jean Royère and Mario Dal Fabbro. Work by legendary artists and designers including George Nakashima, Serge Mouille, Axel Salto, Sergio Rodrigues, Poul Kjaerholm, Wendell Castle, Paul Laszlo, Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouve, and Xavier Mategot will be on view.

“This event is a wonderful chance for us to create an intimate experience for visitors in our own gallery that will help them to gain a deeper understanding of who we are,” said Kim Hostler, cofounder of the participating gallery Antik. “While being a part of a profoundly influential event like Design Miami/ is a great opportunity to gain international recognition, we are eager to bring some of that excitement home to New York City.”

Ambra Medda, director and cofounder of Design Miami/, was honored to be asked to collaborate with the galleries. “While collectors and design enthusiasts were able to visit temporary booths organized by each of these galleries at Design Miami/, this event will allow each institution to emphasize its own unique sensibility, on its home turf. I hope that people who are interested in design and did not attend Design/ Miami last December will be inspired by these exhibitions to make it next year.”
