KENT, UK.-Unique Show Homes for animals open in Kent woodland:
Super Kingdom offers a choice of palatial residences, luxury penthouses and apartments as a winter retreat within the ancient enclave of King’s Wood. The picturesque setting for this gated community offers all the pleasures of a rural location with Ashford’s convenient links to Europe only moments away. Soon available for native and non-native animals to take up residence.

If you go down to the woods today you can be sure of a big surprise... Nestled in King’s Wood, Kent, an installation of animal Show Homes based on the architecture of despots’ palaces is taking shape.

Working in the forest over winter, London Fieldworks, artists Bruce Gilchrist and Jo Joelson will create a film of the Show Homes and their new residents. The film will capture live action and fictional scenarios with footage of the Show Homes in situ, combined with simulations of the imagined internal spaces. The film will be released next spring.

The animals’ use of the Show Homes will reflect the changing habitat and animal displacement taking place in Kent.

As towns such as nearby Ashford expand, Super Kingdom reflects the wider issues regarding the collision of human and animal environments.

The artists are stimulated by global concerns regarding the impact of urban development on the natural world, and the resulting human and animal displacement this causes. Super Kingdom will engage with the changing habitat and animal relocation evident in King’s Wood, a consequence of both climate instability, and the recent drive in forest management to increase bio-diversity.

“Super Kingdom is an exciting commission for Stour Valley Arts and in line with our curatorial agenda” said Director Sandra Drew, “as it focuses on animal behaviour and opens up discussions on relocation, and dislocation of changing habitats in both animals and humans.”

Super Kingdom is the final installment of London Fieldworks’ Hibernator trilogy, a series of works connecting myth and science, environment and technology, the virtual and the real.
