Arcology Appoints a Globally Distinguished Architect to Design its Dubai Based Projects

DUBAI.- Arcology has appointed internationally renowned architect, Shigeru Ban, to design their first landmark project on Palm Jebal Ali (Dubai).

Arcology is committed to collaborating with globally distinguished architects and working with leading branded products in the design and launch of several high-end residential and commercial projects that focus on ecological principles of architecture. Such projects incorporate techniques that seek to reduce the energy footprint in design, construction and everyday operation.

Shigeru Ban is an accomplished architect who actively pursues designs based on such ecological directives as 'conservation' and 'sustainability'. Ban is a graduate of the Southern California Institute of Architecture and Coopers Union's School of Architecture (New York), and is champion of the prestigious Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture.

Described by the Guardian (UK) as 'not your average architect' and Washington Post (US) as a 'maverick among modern architects', Ban has undertook landmark projects in America, France, India, Japan and Turkey. Ban's landmark $35.5m design of the Pompidou's satellite museum in Metz (France) is among his most famous work. He is also recognized for his innovative work with paper and cardboard tubing employed as a sustainable material for building and construction.

Arcology's first project, to be launch in October 2008, will be located on the Crescent of the Palm Jebal Ali and will be a prime beach front development with a total build area of 330,000 square feet and an investment value of 1 Billion AED. Facilities will include a branded retail area, branded spa, health club, infinity swimming pool, landscape and hanging gardens. All residential units will have a 100% sea view. On completion, the properties will all be energy efficient.

Arcology's Jebal Ali Palm project will fully utilize the latest advances in renewable energy sources, climate and quality control and technology. One of Ban's central themes is the 'invisible structure' where the structural elements of each construction are not expressed blatantly but must feature in a more subtle way within the design itself.

The Palm Jebal Ali buildings will take full advantage of natural sun light and shade, and will consume natural ventilation and renewable energy sources thereby limiting the amount of energy used. These principles are the hallmark of a clear set of globally- recognised green credentials.

Arcolgy's Palm Jebal Ali building will be designed and constructed in a way which is sensitive to the environment now and in the future, seeking to contribute to people's sense of well-being and helping to encourage a healthier lifestyle. Shigeru Ban's overall philosophy is to connect people's emotions to the buildings in which they occupy, encouraging each building to have a unique identity.
