CLAREMONT, CA.- The Claremont Museum of Art presents The Art Gala: 2008 on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Westin Pasadena. The event, which benefits the Museum’s exhibitions and programs, honors renowned artist and educator James Fuller, and educator, activist and arts patron Dr. John D. Maguire for their leadership in and dedication to the Claremont Museum of Art. Event Committee members who are either supporting the event and/or expected to attend include: Francine Tolkin Cooper; Lyn and Norman Lear; Sam Maloof; Supervisor Michael Antonovich; Peggy Phelps; and Reverend George Regas.

“Our honorees have been instrumental to both the creation of the Museum and our continued growth,” said the Museum’s Executive Director William Moreno. “We want to ensure that their great contributions to art and philanthropy are not overlooked.”

The evening begins with an exclusive reception for upper-level ticket holders, followed by a general reception and seated dinner and program. Live musical entertainment and a silent auction are also included. Gala tickets begin at $250 per person, and tables start at $5,000. Sponsor packages of various levels are available. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Museum at (909) 621-3200 ext. 805 or events@claremontmuseum.org, or visit http://claremontmuseum.org/specialevents.

Dr. John D. Maguire
In addition to his extensive career as an educator, political and social activist, poet, arts collector and philanthropist, Dr. John D. Maguire’s role as a champion and advocate for the Claremont Museum of Art has been invaluable to its realization and ongoing evolution. His vision, dedication and commitment to the Museum remains unparalleled, and he continues to contribute his time and energy as counsel to the Board of Directors in this critical period of the Museum’s development.

James Fuller
No one better exemplifies the distinguished and prolific arts tradition of Claremont than James (Jim) Fuller. Having taught at Scripps College since 1967, Jim has since retired, but remains an endeared and respected professor of fine art. Jim has served on the Board of Directors for the Claremont Museum of Art since its inception and is a key contributor to its artistic objectives. He continues to work as an artist and plays a vital role in helping to shape the Museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
