LONDON, ENGLAND.- The Wallace Collection celebrates the return from conservation of five Venetian view paintings with a special display highlighting exciting new discoveries regarding their attribution, dating and production, titled "18th-Century Venetian View Painting" and on view through June 16, 2002 . A generous grant donation from the Getty Grant Programme, has enabled us to conserve four major pictures by Francesco Guardi, bringing what were previously damaged and dirty paintings to new life, and transforming them into sparkling visions of eighteenth-century Venice. These Guardis are on show in the Oval Drawing Room, together with a fascinating view of the Grand Canal painted c.1740 by an as yet unknown associate of Canaletto and Bellotto. Thanks to the work of the National Gallery's Conservation Department we will also be able to study this painting anew.
