MADRID.-ARCO Madrid 2009 was presented today. Like each month of February, art dealers, art collectors and art professionals from all over the world meet at ARCO from February 11 to the 16th. This will be the 28th edition of the art fair and will include 244 art galleries from 31 countries. It will feature emerging markets. India will be this years guest country. From the total of art galleries chosen, 202 of them were selected by the Organizing Committee for the General Program: ARCO40. A team of well-known international curators will present a selection of proposals for the Only Projects and Performing ARCO sections, as well as the Expanded Box section that this year will have a subsection, Cinema, dedicated specially to video art.

ARCO Madrid has gathered interest through the success of previous editions and its growing position in the international artistic panorama. This year there is a special presence from three great art markets: New York, London and Germany. China, Brazil and India are the international axis from emergent markets.

The emerging markets are precisely one of the key points of more stability of contemporary art compared to other areas of investment, as the data from the last 12 months have shown. Contemporary art has increased its price index 12.5% according to French consulting firm Art Price. Even though sales have dropped slightly, records are still being generated. 1760 artists born after 1945 have broken their own records in auctions in the last months.
