PARIS.- South-African art is the one that seems to be forgotten of all African art. Some objects such as canes, pipes, jewelry and weapons, end up in western collections. But even though photography allows us to discover the big mural paintings in Sotho, nevertheless, the populations that occupy the southern part of this continent came into contact wit the western world too early. An important exhibition entitled "Secret Africa" at the Dapper museum attempts to fill this gap. This show has been organized by the Museum of African and Oceanic Art (MAAO). The artifacts on display include everyday objects such as pottery, combs, brushes and buckets for milking, all decorated with abstract and figurative motives. The show also includes figurines, pipes to smoke, jewelry and clothing.
