EAST HAMPTON, NY.- The LongHouse Reserve will open their Spring Season on Saturday, April 25th. Their Rites of Spring opening will feature new sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Eric Fischl, Gonzalo Fonseca, George Rickey and Johnny Swing. There will also be a site specific water sculpture by Mia Westerlund Roosen.
This season, LongHouse Reserve (LHR) is excited to introduce a number of new sculptures including follow East Ender Eric Fischls Tumbling Woman which was commissioned to commemorate those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11. It was deemed controversial and withdrawn after being installed along a Rockefeller Center concourse. In LHRs garden, it will be seen under different circumstances. Visitors will discover four of Gonzalo Fonsecas sculptures which are developed from marble, travertine, limestone and brownstone. LongHouse will reinstall Magdalena Abakanwiczs two figures which will once again graze across Peters Pond. Celebrated kinetic sculpture and contemporary artist George Rickeys sculptures will entice visitors to study the simplicity and scale of their moving parts. Artist Johnny Swings is known to LHR visitors for his collection of seating that uses a variety of coins, quarters, nickels, and half-dollars. This season Swings most recent work The Quarter Lounge will again take common everyday materials and re-purposes them. Finally Mia Westerlund Roosens water feature of stucco and running water invites the viewer inside to sit and listen as water cascades through the sculpture from above.
