SAO PAULO (EFE).- A group of 20 heavily armed men stole three valuable paintings by Brazilian artists Candido Portinari and Tarsila do Amaral from a house in Sao Paulo over the weekend, police said.
Portinari's "O Cangaceiro" and "Retrato de Maria," and Do Amaral's "Figura em Azul" were stolen on Sunday, police said, adding that the artworks were not insured.
Two men appeared at the front door bearing Mother's Day flowers for the owner of the house, and the other armed men then ran inside and subdued the seven people they found.
The thieves, who were in the house for 90 minutes, took the paintings, cash, jewelry and other valuables.
Investigators said the robbery may have been committed by people who were aware of the valuables at the house. EFE
