BOISE, ID.- Opening on June 12th at the Discovery Center of Idaho will be the brand new exhibition, Good Vibrations. Once again, the talented exhibit creators at the Discovery Center have built over 20 new exhibits that cleverly bring sound, vibrations, cycles and repeating patterns to life. In the usual hands on approach for which the Discovery Center is known, the new Good Vibrations exhibition pulls visitors into an interaction with each exhibit in order to experience the desired outcome. From biting softly on a rod so that you can hear music resonating only inside your own head (“Bite-A-Phone” is made sanitary by replacing the drinking straw cover after each use), to picking up some flip-flops and pounding out your own tune on the giant “Slap-A-Phone”, visitors are guaranteed to leave DCI with a smile on their face. As with Phenomenal Forces, which closes on June 5th, some of the new exhibits also resemble works of art that reflect the many hours put into their creation. The new “Organ Pipes” exhibit uses a giant bellows to pump air through a variety of hand made whistles in combinations that are controlled by our visitors. So, come prepared to have a great time, but don’t expect a day of peace and quiet!

In an effort to increase community outreach, KBCI Channel 2 has been working with the Discovery Center to build a fully operational TV studio at DCI with Chroma Key technology capabilities. In return, the Discovery Center agreed to make space available for the studio. As of May 21st, the studio has been fully operational, and KBCI made their first live broadcast from the Discovery Center on May 22nd. KBCI weather man, Brian Carrington, showcased the new studio on his evening weatherbroadcast on the 22nd. Now, visitors to the Discovery Center can go into the new studio and watch themselves on closed circuit TV. The visitors can see on the 3 wall-mounted monitors the combination of the computer generated background with the green background as the “green screen” transports them into any number of animated or global settings. Or, they can disappear completely from view behind our green cloak! During the first week of operation of the new studio at DCI, it has already proven to be one of our most popular exhibits. DCI and Channel 2 plan to jointly use the studio for a variety of broadcast opportunities, including regular weather broadcasts from DCI for the KBCI evening news. Channel 2 donated all of the equipment and labor for setting up the new studio.
