FIGUERES.- The Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí presented the last acquisition of a work by the artist, an oil painting from 1923 entitled Bathers of Es Llaner.

The work of art comes from a private collection, dated 1923, it is an oil on cardboard on wood which measures 72 x 103 cm.

Dalí’s father, when his son was five or six years old, rented a small house in Cadaqués, following his good friend Pepito Pichot Gironés, whom he met while studying law at the University of Barcelona. The house was very close to the Pichot home, at the Es Llaner beach, close to the sea. This is the place where Dalí daydreams during the school year, where he gets to know the light and color necessary to create.

Salvador Dalí started to paint when he was very young: his earliest works have been dated between 1910-1914 and, even though in 1923, the approximate date of this painting, he was only 19 years old, experts cannot say that he was a beginner. Influenced by his readings the magazines: Valori Plastici, L’Esprit Nouveau and Alt Empordà), he watches how Impressionism gives way to new aesthetics, with which he identifies. Cubism, which starts to be seen in his work is what one can appreciate in Bathers of Es Llaner.

In August, the work will be permanently exhibited in the Fishmongers Room, at the Dalí Theatre-Museum, in Figueres.
