VADUZ, LIECHTENSTEIN.- The VIII. International Sculpture Symposium, will be taking place from 15 - 18 October 2009 in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The symposium on the topic "Sculpture and Architecture - an Ambivalent Relationship" is organised by the European sculpture network.

The International Sculpture Symposium 2009 is concerned with the topic of the ambivalent relationship between architecture and sculpture. Sculptors as well as architects are devoted to the designing of space, even though with initially differing goals and methods. Architecture and art are not differentiated by their means of creative expression but above all by their points of view.

These points of view, however, have become ever more similar: sculptors design “houses” or bridges; architects create sculptures. This symposium intends to obviate the varying aspects of this ambivalent relationship and should stimulate an informative but critical discussion among the groups involved.

The speakers are, therefore, sculptors, architects, as well as a civil engineer and include Jürg Conzett (CH), Professor at the Technical University ETH Zürich, Gloria Friedmann (F/D), Sculptor, Christian Kerez (CH), Architect and Professor for Architecture and Planning at the Technical University ETH Zürich, Rita McBride (USA/D), Sculptor and Professor of Sculpture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Ulrike Shepherd (D), Curator arts programme, Zeppelin University, and Peter Staub (CH), Dipl.-Arch. Professor at the Institute for Architecture and Planning, Hochschule Liechtenstein.
