SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.- The Seattle Art Museum presents "ContemporaryArtProject," on view through April 6, 2003. Founded and curated by former Seattle gallery owner, Linda Farris, the ContemporaryArtProject (CAP) collection includes 33 recent works by artists who emerged on the international scene within the past ten years, such as Charles Avery, Brad Kahlhamer, Sue de Beer, Cecily Brown, Zhang Huan and Lisa Yuskavage. The Seattle Art Museum is the new and permanent home of the CAP Collection. SAM will present this collection of 28 contemporary artists who have emerged on the international scene within the past 10 years.
Linda Farris, a former Seattle gallerist, assembled a maverick group of sixteen Seattle area art patrons who were interested in collecting and learning about new art. She then traveled around the U.S. and abroad to discover new artists and curate the collection for them. Farris came up with the idea that during the three years (1999–2002) in which the ContemporaryArtProject collectors participated as a group they would share the privilege of temporarily "hosting" these works of art in their homes with the understanding that they would eventually be donated to a museum. The group decided to donate the works to SAM in April of 2002.
