MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA.- The largest exhibition of space exploration ever seen in Australia has blasted into Melbourne Museum. To Mars and Beyond: Search for the Origins of Life takes visitors on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to the furthest reaches of our solar system and beyond. To Mars and Beyond contains some rare and remarkable space treasures including Sir Isaac Newton’s original 17th century telescope, a piece of Mars rock, a section of 3.5 billion-year-old stromatolite and the space suit worn by Australian astronaut, Andy Thomas during his 1998 mission to MIR.
To Mars and Beyond provides a fascinating insight into human space exploration, from ancient myths and dreamtime stories of Aboriginal Australia to the superpower space race and futuristic International Space Station. ‘This magnificent exhibition takes visitors on an inspiring journey into the past and the future,’ said Dr Patrick Greene, CEO of Museum Victoria. ‘To Mars and Beyond questions the origins of the universe and looks at developments in space technology that may finally unlock the secrets of life beyond Earth.’
Dr Greene said Museum Victoria was providing an even more extensive insight into worlds beyond our own, through offering a total Summer of Space program. “Museum Victoria currently has four fascinating space attractions,” Dr Greene said. ‘To Mars and Beyond is at Melbourne Museum; the travelling exhibition, Space, is at Scienceworks; Space Station 3D is showing at IMAX Theatre, and; the Melbourne Planetarium at Scienceworks is screening its new show Guiding Lights: Navigating by the Stars, as well as a variety of other astronomy shows.’
