CLEVELAND, OHIO.- The Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art presents "Painting Zero Degree", on view through June 2, 2002. This exhibition brings together both contemporary masters and young and emerging artists from all over the world to explore the continually changing definition of what constitutes a painting. By presenting more traditional wall hanging pieces with work utilizing areas of the gallery space not traditionally employed in the exhibition of artwork (the ceiling or architectural columns, for example) these artists invite the viewer to literally enter into and participate in artworks Painting Zero Degree aims to stretch the boundaries of what constitutes a painting in today’s increasingly visually complex art world. This exhibition offers both an historical context for this challenging and visually seductive work and the opportunity for the viewer to explore a new area of painting “situated at the crossroads between architecture, traditional painting and decorative arts.” Artists included in this exhibition are Daniel Buren, Clay Ketter, Robert Ryman and Karin Sander among others.
