MIAMI, FL.- Miami Art Museum, South Florida’s major contemporary art museum, has elected nine new members to its board of trustees: Steven J. Guttman, Mark H. LaRoe, Juan P. Loumiet, Rodolfo Luzardo, Deryl McKissack, Mark E. Oren, M.D., Arthur Halsey Rice, Eneida Roldan and Dennis Scholl. These new trustees will help guide MAM’s community programs, donor support and planning for the new Miami Art Museum at Museum Park.

“We are happy to add this extraordinary group of nine trustees to Miami Art Museum’s board as we make significant strides toward our new home in Museum Park,” said Aaron Podhurst, Miami Art Museum chairman of the board of trustees. “Building a new museum requires the dedication of a committed group of supporters. We’re fortunate to have found that in these outstanding new board members, who are helping to shape a bright future for MAM.”

Miami Art Museum welcomes the following new trustees:

Steven J. Guttman is the former chairman of the board and chief executive officer at Federal Realty Investment Trust. He retired in 2003 after a 30-year tenure at the firm. Under his direction, the Trust’s assets grew from $41 million to $2.3 billion and the dividend rate increased each year at a compound annual rate of 6.8 percent. Guttman is a former chairman of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts where he was also a member of the board of governors and Executive Committee. He is a past trustee of the International Council of Shopping Centers, and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania and MIT. In 2002, The Washington Business Journal recognized Mr. Guttman in its Twenty Years of Washington Business retrospective edition as the leading Washington area retail real estate developer during that period. In 1998, Guttman founded Manhattan-based Storage Deluxe Management Company, which currently owns, has interests in and manages 27 self-storage locations in the NY metro area totaling more than 2 million square feet and over 32,000 units. Guttman was appointed a director of Macquarie DDR Management Limited in January 2004 and serves on the Audit Committee of the firm. He also is a member of the Executive Committee of the Centre Pompidou Foundation, North American chair of the International Committee of the Miami Art Museum, and has previously served as an advisory board member of The Wolfsonian Museum of Florida International University. Guttman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with honors in 1968, and earned his law degree from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in 1972 and graduated with honors.

Mark LaRoe is managing director and Florida market manager for the JPMorgan Private Bank and is chairman of the market leadership team for JPMorgan Chase Foundation, which gives away over $700,000 to support communities throughout the state. He is on the board of the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, Palm Beach United Way, the New World Symphony in Miami, a member of the United Way of Palm Beach Alexis de Tocqueville Society, and is a Commander in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He is also on the corporate partners board of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. He moved to Florida from Texas in 2004. While in Texas, LaRoe was president elect and board development chairman for the Dallas Opera, and chairman of the President's Leadership Council for Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He served as a director on the Boards of Carter Blood Care, the Dallas Business Committee for the Arts, Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation, Jacob's Ladder, and Hope Cottage Pregnancy and Adoption Center Foundation. He was president of the Mental Health Association of Greater Dallas, a board member of Artreach Dallas, Inc., and a member of the Downtown Dallas Rotary Club. LaRoe graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Finance in 1980.

Juan P. Loumiet has been a member of Greenberg Traurig since 1977, and a shareholder of the firm since 1980. He specializes in complex domestic and international real estate transactions, including hotel and resort transactions, and in workouts and restructurings. Loumiet is a collector of Cuban and Cuban-American art. He collaborated with Miami Art Museum on its first major exhibition, Triumph of the Spirit: Carlos Alfonzo, A Survey (1975-1991), which traveled to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C. In 2006 he inaugurated the gallery space at the Freedom Tower with the exhibition Carlos Alfonzo Extreme Expression 1980-1991, which he organized and which included the works In Flesh and In Spirit which he has donated to MAM. Loumiet has served on the boards of many organizations, including the Dade Community Foundation (of which he was the first Hispanic chair), the Miami City Ballet, the Performing Arts Center Trust, the Miami-Dade County United Way and the Miami Children’s Chorus. He received a law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law and a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Yale University.

Rodolfo Luzardo is an associate principal at McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm, where he serves as a leader of the firm’s business-to-business marketing and sales practice, and has been an advisor to the board of trustees of Miami Art Museum. Prior to joining McKinsey, Luzardo was a vice president and CFO of a private equity investment group in Chicago, where he was responsible for the financial management of the portfolio of companies. Previously, Luzardo was at J.P. Morgan and Merrill Lynch in New York. Luzardo received an M.B.A. with honors from The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami.

Deryl McKissack is president and chief executive officer of McKissack & McKissack, an architecture, environmental engineering and program management firm which she founded in 1990 as a sole entrepreneur. Through her leadership and vision, McKissack & McKissack has grown to a firm of 150 employees with offices in Washington, DC, Chicago, Miami and Baltimore. The firm is ranked by Engineering News Record as one of the top “construction management for-fee” firms in the nation. Its successful track record includes the new Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial, the renovation of the main U.S. treasury building, the restoration of the Thomas Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, the new Washington convention center, the new Washington Nationals major league baseball stadium, the O'Hare International Airport modernization program, and the new Baltimore Hilton Hotel and Convention Center. Prior to launching her own company, McKissack worked with Howard University, Turner Construction Company and Dames & Moore Group, leaders in the construction and engineering industries. McKissack serves on the board of directors of the National Building Museum, the Classrooms Foundation and the DC Economic Club. He is a former member of the board of the National Building Museum. McKissack has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Howard University, where she also studied architecture. In 2007, she was the recipient of the Adelphi Commencement Honorary Degree, Doctor of Public Service, from the University of Maryland University College.

Mark E. Oren, M.D., was clinical professor of medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine from 1993-2004, and previously conducted a private practice in hematology, oncology and internal medicine from 1973-1999. From 1966 to 1970, he was a Surgeon (Commander) in the United States Public Health Service. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and received additional diplomates in the sub-specialties of hematology and oncology. Oren has been a long-term docent at Miami Art Museum and most recently served as president of MAM’s Docent Association. He also has served as director and vice president of Temple Beth Ann, as a member of the board of directors, Executive Committee and vice president of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, on the National Alumni Committee and National Advisory Committee for the Department of Health Care Management of the Harvard Medical School, and the National Board of Trustees for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. A native of Catskill, New York, Dr. Oren received his A.B. from Cornell University in 1962 and graduated cum laude from Harvard Medical School in 1966.

Arthur Halsey Rice has more than 30 years of experience practicing law and continues to lead his Fort Lauderdale-based firm, Rice Pugatch Robinson & Schiller, P.A.. Since the firm's inception, Rice has added three partners, eight associates, four paralegals and 10 additional staff members. In addition to his many years practicing law, Rice also served his country as a helicopter pilot for the United States Army, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross and other citations before retiring with the rank of Captain. A Connecticut native, Rice moved to South Florida in 1973 to attend the University of Miami School of Law. He graduated three years later and began practicing with a commercial litigation firm in 1976. Rice received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Quinnipiac University in Hamden Connecticut.

Eneida Roldan is the president and chief executive officer of the Jackson Health System, which encompasses six hospitals and 10 primary care centers, among other facilities. Roldan is the first woman and first Hispanic to serve in this role. She joined the Jackson System in 2008 as senior vice president. Previously, Roldan was the CEO of the Metropolitan Hospital of Miami and its predecessor, the Pan American Hospital. Raised in Miami, she attended the University of Miami and the Ross University School of Medicine. She also has a master's degree in public health from the University of South Florida and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee. She has also held executive positions in community boards and holds memberships innumerous medical and business societies.

Dennis Scholl, a longtime Miami arts advocate and founding chairman of Miami Art Museum’s Collector’s Council, is the Miami program director for the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. In this position, Scholl works with local leaders on programs including the Knight Arts Challenge, a $40 million initiative to unite South Florida through the arts. An art collector for more than 30 years, Scholl has lead local and national philanthropic efforts. In addition to his work with MAM’s Collectors Council, he served as founding chair of the Guggenheim Photography Committee and of the Tate Modern American Acquisitions. He has also served on the boards of the Aspen Art Museum, the North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art and the alternative art space Locust Projects, of which he was chair. A founder of the international wine venture Betts & Scholl, he previously practiced law and worked as a C.P.A. and as a real estate investor involved in the rebirth of South Beach. Scholl received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Florida International University and a law degree from the University of Miami.
