Katonah Art Center to Hold First-Ever Faculty Show

KATONAH, NY.- Long requested by its students and patrons, the Katonah Art Center will host its first-ever Faculty Show, with an opening reception on January 9, 2009 from 2:00-4:00PM at the Katonah Village Library Garden Room.

Jock MacRae, Rae Smith, Wende Caporale, Laurel Boeck, Ron Mineo, Cindy Sacks, and more--this roster of notable artists, all well-known in the art world and by the art-savvy public, will exhibit work in the Show. Many of the pieces exhibited will be for sale.

Katonah Art Center founder and director, Loren Anderson, is understandably proud to exhibit her instructors’ work. “Our teachers are all incredibly gifted artists,” said Ms. Anderson. “This is my way of showing how talented this group of artists is. They’re all great teachers as well; and that’s not always the case.”

Ms. Anderson has known one of her instructors for most of her life. Jock MacRae was Ms. Anderson’s teacher when she was thirteen years old. He was instrumental in the founding of the KAC and was one of its first teachers. Mr. MacRae’s career has included numerous gallery exhibitions and awards, most recently the New York State Council on the Arts Grants for a series of wetland paintings. He is also the founder of the well-known Wyckoff Gallery and the Bengert-MacRae Gallery. He will be exhibiting several pieces in the show.

Rae Smith, president of the Pastel Society of America will also exhibit her work at the Faculty Show. Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions throughout the United States, Japan, China, France, Italy, Russia, and Canada, and most recently one of her paintings was purchased by the China Museum of Art for its permanent collection. Ms. Smith has been published in Best of Pastels II, Pastel Journal, and International Artist Magazine. Ms. Smith is also listed in Who’s Who in American Art.

The New York Times referred to Katonah Art Center artist Wende Caporale as a “leader in the field” of children’s portraiture. Ms. Caporale has been featured in American Artist, International Artist, The Pastel Journal, and Pastel Artist International magazines. Ms. Caporale’s book Painting Children’s Portraits in Pastels has been selling worldwide since its publication in 2001.

Loren Anderson not only founded the Katonah Art Center but is also an established painter and aspiring sculptor. “I have been working on a seven-foot-long expressionist piece, which I’m very exciting about, that I am hoping to have completed for the Show. I’ve also included a more traditional portrait of my daughter’s friend, which shows that I actually can draw!” laughs Ms. Anderson. Both pieces will be shown at the Faculty Exhibit.
