NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.- The Yale University Art Gallery presents "The Synthetic Century—Collage from Cubism to Postmodernism, Selections from the Collection", on view through April 28, 2002. Beginning with important early examples by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, this exhibition, organized by Elisabeth Hodermarsky, assistant curator of prints, drawings, and photographs, will concentrate on the ever-expanding repertoire of non-traditional materials used by artists working in collage throughout the century. These disparate materials have served not only to express individual artistic intent or to reflect the time in which a collage was made, but also to inform and define the medium throughout its ninety-year history.
