NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announced The Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth evening sale raised $1,387,000 to benefit four environmental organizations: Conservation International, Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and The Central Park Conservancy. The live auction celebrates the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and has a companion silent auction hosted by Charitybuzz that runs through May 6th. The top lot, All You Need is Jealousy by Damien Hirst, sold for $92,000.

“Christie’s is honoured to play its part in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day with such engaged and inspiring leaders from the worlds of culture, finance, fashion, philanthropy and conservation,” said Edward Dolman, CEO of Christie’s. “With one simple click of a mouse or texting ‘GoGreen’ or raising an auction paddle, countless individuals from around the world have said, 'I care about our planet and I care about the future.' We thank each and every one of them for their personal and genuine bid to save the earth.”

Hosted by Susan and David Rockefeller, the auction was led by Christopher Burge, Honorary Chairman of Christie’s, along with Chevy Chase, Master of Ceremonies. The star-studded event included guests such as Salma Hayek, Sam Waterston, Ted Danson, Candice Bergen, Brian Williams, John McEnroe, Elettra Wiedemann, James Lipton, Joyce Varvatos, Rogan Gregory, Al Roker, Ann Curry, Matt Lauer, Natalie Morales, Kelly Cutrone, Willie Garson, Cornelia Guest, Doutzen Kroes, Derek Blasber, Willie Garson, Miranda Kerr and more.

Christie’s Green Auction: A Bid to Save the Earth was made possible through the unprecedented collaboration with the four beneficiary organizations, NBCU’s ‘Green is Universal,’ Deutsche Bank Climate Change Advisors, Barneys New York, Target, Native Energy and Charitybuzz, in addition to the amazing support of the event’s more than 150 honorary host committee members, all visionary leaders from the worlds of art, business, fashion, philanthropy, conservation and celebrity.

The Green Auction’s companion silent auction, powered by Charitybuzz, will continue through May 6th on www.ABidtoSavetheEarth.org. Lots in the silent auction include celebrity packages such as spending a day with Hugh Jackman on the set of his movie “Reel Steel’, VIP tickets to a Christina Aguilera concert, luxury travel experiences along with important photographic works, paintings, and sculpture. The final results will be announced on May 6th after its completion.

Throughout the evening guests were encouraged to give a $10.00 donation to The Green Auction by texting gogreen to phone number 20222. Donations will continue to be accepted throughout the duration of the companion silent auction which runs through May 6th.
