Jackson's '84 Victory Tour Glove Sells for $190K |
|
|
An undated handout made available by Juliens Auctions on 25 June 2010 shows a custom-designed white cotton, right-hand glove completely covered in clear Swarovski loch rosen crystals auctioned for 190,000 US dollars at Juliens Auctions' auction of Music Icons at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, USA. The crystal covered glove is one of the most recognized pieces of wardrobe in the history of pop culture. After Jackson's performance on the 1983 Motown 25 television special, where he performed the moonwalk for the first time, the glove became one of the most iconic elements of Jackson's signature look. It was at this time that Jackson invested in five custom created, hand-sewn gloves incorporating hundreds of Swarovski crystals. The gloves were commissioned for the Jackson's 1984 Victory tour where Michael performed in fifty-five concerts with his brothers. This is glove number three of the five that were produced for and worn by Michael Jackson during the Victory tour. EP

LAS VEGAS (AP).- Bidders from around the world bought up Michael Jackson memorabilia worth nearly $1 million at an auction in Las Vegas on the anniversary of his death.
The biggest payout was $190,000 for the Swarovski-crystal-studded glove the late pop star wore on his 1984 Victory Tour.
Darren Julien of Julien Auctions says it was unlike anything he's ever seen in 15 years of business. He says some items, like the glove, brought 10 times more than the estimated value.
The glove had been expected to sell for between $20,000 and $30,000.
Julien says it shows Michael Jackson is "the most sought after and most collectible celebrity of all time."
