Leslie Hindman Auctioneers will sell clothing and accessories from the estate of Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson, whose familys company publishes Ebony and Jet magazines. More than 800 suits, coats, blouses, gowns and accessories collected by Mrs. Johnson from the 1960s through present day will be sold during the auction houses fall Vintage Couture and Accessories sale. Mrs. Johnson passed away on January 3, 2010.
We are thrilled to be handling the diverse and extra-ordinary collection of Eunice W. Johnson including the groundbreaking work of designers such as Thierry Mugler, Yves Saint Laurent, Emanuel Ungaro, Claude Montana, Koos Van Den Akker, Givenchy and countless others. Mrs. Johnson was a visionary, a philanthropist and made a tremendous impact on the way fashion was disseminated, says Leslie Hindman.
The collection reveals the variety of lush fabrics, colors, furs and embellishment for which Eunice W. Johnson was so known. Buyers will have the unique opportunity not only to bid on the rare treasures offered in the Vintage Couture and Accessories auction, but to purchase items during the exhibition and take home items from Mrs. Johnsons important collection spanning five decades.
Leslie Hindman Auctioneers auctions are free and open to the public. An exhibition will be held September 11 through September 15; the auction will take place on September 16 at 5:00 pm.
