LONDON, ENGLAND.- The Photographer's Gallery presents The Citigroup Private Bank Photography Prize, on view through March 31, 2002. Now in its sixth year, The Citigroup Private Bank Photography Prize is one of the most celebrated awards in the world of contemporary photography. This year's shortlist is a mix of renowned mid-career artists and exciting new names. It is perhaps the most international shortlist - Roger Ballen (South Africa/USA), Elina Brotherus (Finland), Philip-Lorca di Corcia (USA), Thomas Ruff (Germany) and Shirana Shahbazi (Iran) - their choice of subject matter and approach to the photographic medium, equally diverse.
The jury this year is Hervé Chandès, Director, Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, Paris; Charlotte Cotton, Assistant Curator of Photographs, Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Paul Graham, artist, London. Ian Dunlop, Fine Art Consultant, is the non-voting Chairman of the Jury. The winner of the £15,000 Prize will be announced by designer Agnés Troublè on the 28 February at The Photographers' Gallery. Each runner-up will receive £1,500.
The Prize was founded by Citibank Private Bank in 1996. Its previous winners are: Boris Mikhailov (Ukraine, 2001), Anna Gaskell (USA, 2000), Rineke Dijkstra (The Netherlands, 1999), Andreas Gursky (Germany, 1998) and Richard Billingham (UK, 1997).
