LOS ANGELES, CA.- Bonhams & Butterfields featured a selection of important books from the Estate of Glenn Goldman during the Sunset Estate Auction on August 22, 2010. Goldman was the founder and owner of the legendary Los Angeles independent bookstore, Book Soup, which opened in 1975.

The offering was highly anticipated by the Los Angeles community and brought strong prices at the firm's Sunset Boulevard gallery, located just steps from Goldman's legendary store. The great literary and photographic works brought more than $72,400.

Nestled in a Sunset Strip storefront across the street from Tower Records and the original Spago, Book Soup's crowded stacks offer an eclectic selection of books on art, photography, literature, film and music. The store is also famous for its high profile book signings by such luminaries as Gore Vidal, Stephen King, James Ellroy, Edward Albee, and Tom Stoppard. Glenn described himself as a "bookseller to the great and infamous," and cultivated a loyal following both locally and internationally. His personal collecting interests included modern literature, western Americana, art and photography, California fine press, and literature to film.

Items of note in the August sale from Goldman's Estate included a group of modern art volumes inscribed to Goldman by Sam Francis (est. $250-300, sold for $5,795); a selection of approximately 30 books on photography highlighted by Kinsey, Photographer: A Half Century of Negatives (est. $200-250, sold for $4,880); a copy of Nudes by Annie Leibovitz accompanied by group of erotica (est. $250-350, sold for $3,355); a assemblage of modern architecture volumes, several in the original publisher's box (est. $300-500, sold for $3,355) and a selection of approximately 20 books on photography inscribed to Goldman (est. $200-300, sold for $2,745) as well as numerous other signed and inscribed books, by such luminaries as Helmut Newton, Ed Ruscha and Hunter S. Thompson, among others.

Additional books from the Estate of Glenn Goldman will be offered during the fall of 2010. Highlights will be available in the weeks preceding the sale.
