BOSTON, MA.- The Historic New England recently acquired a painting by New England artist Gertrude Beals Bourne (1868-1962). The beautiful watercolor depicts Gertrude Beals Bournes studio, created for her by her husband, architect Frank Bourne, in Sunflower Castle, their house on Bostons Beacon Hill. The Bournes moved in right after their marriage in 1904 and lived there until 1962.
Known for painting gardens and Colonial Revival architecture, Bournes work was shown at such venues as the Boston Art Club, the New York Water Color Club, the American Water Color Society, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the National Gallery of Art.
