Museums Get Together to Save Omai Portrait |
LONDON, ENGLAND.- The National Portrait Gallery and the National Museums and Galleries of Wales have made a joint appeal of £1.8m to save William Parry's portrait of Omai, reported The Guardian. The portrait was sold recently to a gallery outside of England. An export banned was placed on it to allow a British institution to match the sale price. The National Portrait Gallery put the painting on display the day before yesterday. If the two museums acquire the work, they would each have it for five years.
