SPANGA, SWEDEN.- Prior to assuming her duties at
Tensta Konsthall 1 January, 2011, Maria Lind was director of the Masters Programme at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College in New York (2008-2010). She was head of Iaspis in Stockholm in 2005-2007 and head of Kunstverein Munchen in 2002-2004. From 1997 to 2001 she was a curator at Modern Museet and in 1998 a co-curator of Manifesta 2, Europes art biennale.
Maria Lind was educated at Stockholm University and at the Whitney Museums Independent Study Program in New York. Since the beginning of the 1990s she has been working as an art critic and her book, Selected Maria Lind Writing, was recently published by Sternberg Press (Berlin). In 2009 she received the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement.

Tensta Konsthall was founded in 1998, the year Stockholm was Cultural Capital of Europe. The gallery aims at reflecting cultural diversity, encouraging dialogue and working for a long-term cultural sustainability founded upon the conviction that the presentation and promotion of art and culture has a direct and positive effect on social participation. During the 12 years of its existence, Tensta Konsthall has become an internationally recognized centre of contemporary art and has developed a strong pedagogical base, which gives the gallery an important role in its immediate surroundings. Tensta Konsthall is situated in Tensta, a suburb of the city of Stockholm with a multiplicity of ethnic groups.
