CINCINNATI, OH.- Country Club Cincinnati presents Another Mise-en-scène, an exhibition/installation curated by Michael Lowe. Taking its title from the French term typically applied to the design aspects of theater or film production, this exhibition combines a dramatically wide range of art objects and design objects into considered and ill-considered vignettes leading to a compelling whole or mise-en-scène.
From exhibition curator Michael Lowe: The exhibition presents a view of a new bohemia or a newer bohemia which follows the path of all such revolutions in taste, taste in lifestyle, art and decor - the holy trinity of happiness. My apologies to those who view art and design as vehicles of social change or on the other end of the spectrum, the new symbols of status. Art and objects should give pleasure in the same way as a holy revelation or a cat of nine tails. I hope to whip or woo someone into an aesthetic froth.
Studied elegance is to true elegance what a wig is to hair - An aphorism from Treatise on Elegant Living by Honore de Balzac a book in which Balzac attempts to define the new dandyism of the 19th century, the intellectual and artistic dandyism of 19th c. France XXXVIII.
Giving style to ones character- a great and rare art! It is exercised by those who see all the strengths and weaknesses of their own natures and then comprehend them in an artistic plan until everything appears as art and reason and even weakness delights the eye - Friedrich Nietzsche
