BRUGGE, BELGIUM.- The Groeningemuseum presents the exhibition "Jan van Eyck, The Old Flemish and the South", on view through June 30, 3003. The Middle Ages are ending and new times are coming. Changes come in the economic, politic and cultural areas. The flourishing city of Borgogne is developing in the shadow of France and the Sacred Roman Empire. The ties between the Netherlands and the territory in the Mediterranean become more solid. Although Brugge is known as the birthplace for the Primitive Flemish, they did not stay there. Many of them traveled with their works, having influence on each other. Jan van Eyck, traveled a lot in Spain and Portugal to work also to know local artists. The exhibition intends to show the interaction between these artists.
