WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.- The Worcester Art Museum presents "Weegee's World: Life, Death, and the Human Drama", on view from April 5 to June 2, 2002. During the Depression and the years of World War II, a tabloid news photographer nicknamed Weegee prowled New York City in a Chevrolet outfitted with a police scanner, the first such radio authorized to a civilian. It allowed Weegee to be first on the scene of the city's most sensational events. Bold, graphic, and arresting, these images convey the raw experience of life in the city during a dynamic era. This traveling exhibition was organized by the International Center for Photography in New York and features Weegee's most famous and moving images. Support was provided by the Hall and Kate Peterson Fund for Photography.
