ST. PETERSBURG, FL.- The nearly 50 works in The Human Touch: Contemporary Art from the
RBC Wealth Management Collection reflects a stounding diversity in media and the people portrayed. The exhibition, on view May 14-September 4.
From serious to whimsical, realistic to abstract, the artworks provide fresh perspectives on the human figure. Many pieces are large-scale. Rarely has such a wide range of ethnicity and cultures been explored in one collection and show. A host of major artists are represented: Roy Lichtenstein, Jim Dine, Chuck Close, Nan Goldin, John Baldessari, and Carrie Mae Weems, among others.
A number of these artists have been tapped for Whitney Biennials, a leading venue for cutting-edge art. All the artists have works in important museum collections.
For more than 18 years, RBC Wealth Management, one of the nations largest full-service securities firms, has collected and presented art that reflects the society in which we live and work. The corporate collection, permanently displayed at the firms headquarters in Minneapolis, has grown to more than 400 objects. For the first time, outstanding works from the collection have been selected for The Human Touch, which is traveling to cities where RBC Wealth Management has offices.
Artists have been inspired by the human figure throughout the ages, said Museum Director Kent Lydecker. The gifted contemporary artists in this exhibition are making vital and vibrant contributions to that conversation and tradition. We are grateful to RBC Wealth Management for making these impressive works, which resonate with those in our collection, available to the public.
By supporting the arts, we hope to help foster communication, dialogue, and a greater appreciation for the role that the arts play in shaping our world, said Bill Chamberlain, director of RBC Wealth Managements St. Petersburg Branch. We are proud to partner with the Museum of Fine Arts to bring this magnificent collection to the Tampa Bay area.
