Danish Architect Joern Utzon To Supervize Renovation |
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.- Danish architect Joern Utzon designed the Sydney Oera House thirty-six years ago and will now supervise its renovation. He is now 83 years old. In 1999, the Sydney Opera House invited Joern Utzon to prepare a Statement of Design Principles to guide any future changes to the building. He is working on the project as a consultant with his son and partner Jan. At the time he said that, “things may need to be done to make sure the building continues to perform its role, as a world class performing arts centre.“
“Some people may have the idea that I am to redesign and replace the interiors of the building. But this is not the case. My job is to articulate the overall vision and detailed design principles for the site, and for the form of the building and its interior.”
He added, “future architects should have the freedom to use up to date technology to find solutions of the problems of today and tomorrow.”
