First jewelry auction of the Fall season announced for September at Sotheby's in New York

NEW YORK, N.Y.- The first jewelry auction of the fall season will take place at Sotheby’s New York on 20 September 2011, following a record-breaking spring season for jewels at Sotheby’s. The sale of Important Jewels will be led by an exquisite Cartier “Tutti Frutti” bracelet, one of Cartier’s rarest and most iconic Art Deco designs (est. $200/300,000*). The auction also features signed pieces by Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb, Buccellati and Tiffany & Co., with estimates ranging from $5,000 to $800,000. Collectors of high quality diamonds will find a compelling selection of wearable white diamond rings ranging from 2 to 15 carats, as well as an array of fancy colored diamond jewels. Estimated at more than $13 million in total, the Important Jewels presale exhibition opens to the public in New York on Friday, 16 September.

*Property of a New England Collector. Platinum, Carved Colored Stone, Diamond and Enamel “Tutti Frutti” Bracelet, Cartier, circa 1928, Designed as a flexible openwork foliate band set with carved sapphires, rubies and emeralds, accented by emerald and sapphire beads, further set with old European-cut and single-cut diamonds weighing approximately 7.00 carats, and applied with black enamel. Estimate $200,000/300,000.

*Property from an Important Private Collection. Platinum and Diamond Ring, Van Cleef & Arpels, The emerald-cut diamond weighing 9.19 carats, D color, VVS2 clarity, flanked by triangular-shaped diamonds weighing approximately 2.80 carats. Estimate $500,000/700,000.

*Property of a Lady. Platinum, Fancy Intense Blue and Near Colorless Diamond Pendant-Necklace The pendant set with a pear-shaped diamond of fancy intense blue color weighing 2.59 carats, VS1 clarity, surmounted by two diamonds weighing approximately 1.00 carat. Estimate $500,000/700,000.

*Platinum, 18 Karat Pink Gold and Diamond Ring, Rosi Blu The round diamond weighing 5.56 carats, D color, Internally Flawless, with Excellent Cut, Polish and Symmetry, flanked by 2 round diamonds each weighing .70 carat of similar perfect quality. Estimate $725,000/825,000.

*From a Private Collection Platinum and Diamond “Plume” Brooch, Sterlé, circa 1950 Designed as a curved feather set with marquiseshaped and baguette diamonds weighing approximately 22.00 carats. Estimate $60,000/80,000.

*Property of a Private American Collector – A Collection of David Webb Jewels Including: Platinum, Cultured Pearl and Diamond Bangle-Bracelet, David Webb Designed as braided cultured pearl and diamond-set platinum strands, set throughout with approximately 25.00 carats of diamonds.Estimate $30,000/50,000.

*From the Estate of Millicent Rogers. 18 Karat Two-Color Gold and Diamond Brooch, Verdura Millicent Rogers is remembered for her great style and her passion for life’s aesthetic pleasures. She amassed wonderful collections of clothing, jewelry and Native American art. Today her name lives on at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico. Estimate $7,000/9,000.

*Property from the Estate of Mrs. Walter Matthau. Platinum, Gold, Ruby and Diamond Ring, Tiffany & Co. Set with a Burmese ruby and diamonds weighing approximately 3.50 carats. Carol Matthau embodied the glamour and refinement of 1950s New York society. A childhood friend of Truman Capote, she was the inspiration for Holly Golightly in Capote’s 1958 novella “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Married to the Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Saroyan and the Oscar-winning actor Walter Matthau, she collected beautiful jewels throughout her life – a selection of which is offered in this sale. Estimate $40,000/60,000.
