MADRID.- Following "Precipitados" (Precipitates), Pablo Genovés’ first individual show in the Galería Pilar Serra, now presents Cronología del ruido (Noise Chronology), an exhibition in which he returns to his particular process of re-signification of symbolic spaces of western culture from the combination of media and signs, and his liking for contrast and the unexpected.

“Is renovation possible when catastrophe rises up before us as the natural and eternal state of things? In the images of Pablo Genovés, destruction transgresses the laws of time and establishes its own chronology. The symbols and fictions of our culture apparently succumb in the face of the irruption of the untameable: mechanical natures, monumental in their disproportion and now out of all control. But hiding behind this aggression is a secret pact of compromise. The pre-existing and its end are offered each aware of the other, in the warmth of a historical intimacy. In this Cronología del ruido, the spaces of representation – museums, theatres or churches – are revealed as enormous apparatuses of engineering: machines for the generation of myths which when cracked show their steel innards. In his images, Genovés locates our myths and values in an arc of time and he tenses them to their limit, up to the moment immediately prior to tearing, necessary for the percussion. Like the metal which, when struck, faithfully reproduces a noise of storm.”

In this text the writer Lucía Carballal highlights the powerful complexity of the work of Pablo Genovés. A work full of changes and of times. Historical, chronological and climatic times that are intermixed and superimposed in an alchemical way in order to construct an “other” significance of reality, beyond the appearance, which seeks to expose the unequivocal identity of certain symbols: past and present. So, palaces, libraries or cathedrals, reflections respectively of the power, knowledge and religion of an epoch, are violently invaded by outside elements, which modify and pervert them – we do not know whether perpetually – in a suspended moment – the one portrayed by Genovés – the end and start of something, which suppurates the silence that precedes and follows the great catastrophes. And in all this the viewer plays a central role, witnessing these synergies of other worlds from a privileged place; and who, located in the middle of this “stage”, becomes the protagonist and obligatory performer of a new knowledge in this start of an era.

Exhibited throughout Spain, the work of Pablo Genovés has also been shown (individually and collectively) in France, Germany, England, Argentina, Brazil and the USA. His photographs form part of such major national and international collections as the Coca-Cola Foundation, Circa XX, Banco Spirito Santo, Patio Herreriano, CAC Málaga, the Solidarity Museum in Santiago de Chile, etc.
