Trustees Strengthen Governance of the MAM



MILWAUKEE.- The Milwaukee Art Museum announced the election of four new members of the Board of Trustees at its Annual Meeting held on May 19, 2003.  Newly elected members are Frederic G. Friedman, partner, Reinhart, Boerner, Van Deuren, and currently legal counsel to the Museum; Raymond R. Krueger, partner, Michael Best and Friedrich, and member of the Museum Building Committee 1995-2002; Sheldon B. Lubar, principal, Lubar & Co., and former board president 1977-1980; Nancy Zimpher, chancellor, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
In welcoming the new members of the board, the president, Donald W. Baumgartner, stressed the importance of enhancing the governance of the institution.  He announced that Sheldon Lubar would be chairing the Financial Development Committee, adding  "I am delighted that Sheldon Lubar has returned to the board and I expect him to bring greater focus and stability to our finances."  
This new board committee has the objectives of strengthening the finances of the Museum by repaying the Museum’s $32.5 million debt as quickly as possible and of ensuring tight financial control. The other members are Donald Baumgartner; Richard J. Glaisner, chairman of the Finance Committee; James H. Schloemer, chairman of the Development Committee; and David Gordon, CEO and director.
Lubar commented on his appointment: "My family and I love the Museum and I will do whatever I can to work to bring about a reduction in debt and play a role in developing the future board leadership of this great institution."
The following members of the Board were re-elected for an additional term of three years: Judy Jorgensen, Mary Ann LaBahn, Roy Reiman, Sandra Robinson, and Allen M. Taylor.  The president thanked those members of the board who had come to the end of their terms: Anthony J. Petullo, Betty Quadracci, Frederick G. Luber, and Robert A. Wagner.
Following the Museum’s annual meeting, Friends of Art, the Milwaukee Art Museum’s major support group, held its annual meeting and elected the following FOA officers: Pamela W. Shovers, Milwaukee, president; Lori Bechthold, Mequon, president-elect; Stacy G. Terris, Milwaukee, past president; Judy L. Perkins, Milwaukee, treasurer; Edward J. Hanrahan, Milwaukee, secretary, and Lawrence J. Schnuck, Milwaukee, member at large.
Elected FOA vice presidents are Mark S. Bishop, Brookfield, business development; Eileen Wright-Dimick, Milwaukee, marketing, and Molly W. Allen, Milwaukee, membership.
Elected new members of the FOA Board of Directors are Marie-Pierre Bechthold, Delafield; Dennis Connolly, Milwaukee; Julia DeCicco, Milwaukee; Susan Forrer, Milwaukee; Scott Heinert, Milwaukee; Jon Hopkins, Mequon; Sally Schuler, Milwaukee, and Jennifer Ulbricht, Milwaukee.
