DETROIT, MICHIGAN.- In an unprecedented effort to bolster its endowment and to raise the necessary funds for expanded programming, Detroit’s Museum of New Art (MONA) has announced plans to sell off its entire permanent collection. When asked to put a pricetag on the collection, Jef Bourgeau, the museum’s director, refused to speculate. "Priceless?" he shrugged. Ninety percent of MONA is currently in crates according to its curator, Dana Smith. "But that’s true everywhere," she added. "We’ve all become little more than a conspiracy of warehouses. With most of us not even aware of what we do have until there’s an inventory and we discover what’s missing." "At the same time," Bourgeau said, "suddenly glutting the world market should lower art prices across the board. Which will allow MONA to make some really great purchases we couldn’t afford otherwise."
ALL SALES FINAL at the MONA on Saturday, May 4: from 6pm until 10pm.
