TOLEDO, SPAIN.- The painting "The Veronica" by El Greco has returned to the Santa Cruz Museum in Toledo after undergoing a restoration process at the Prado Museum in Madrid during four months. Rafael Alonso was the person in charge of the restoration, who was also responsible of 66 other restorations of works by El Greco. José Valverde, the Counselor of Education and Culture of the Castille-La Macha goverment was present at the presentetion of the restored work, together with Alonso. Alonso stated that after this restoration process to this work that dates from 1577-1580, there is no doubt that the work was painted by El Greco personally, and not by any of his assistants. "Non of his assistants or discpiples could have reached such color as El Greco did," stated Alonso. Alonso further stated that the "Firm painting" of El Greco is evident in this work.
