SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Just in time for the holidays, Bonhams looks forward to presenting its Period Art & Design auction, December 16-17, with highlights of jewelry, photography and ethnographic art, among myriad additional offerings sure to appeal to a broad scope of collectors.

The sale will glimmer with an unmounted, pear-shaped tanzanite (est. $3,500-5,500); an emerald, sapphire and 22k gold lion motif clasp (est. $2,300-2,800); and an 18k gold starburst pendant/brooch with a 14k gold pin-stem (est. $2,000-3,000).

The photography portion of the sale will offer two Ansel Adams gelatin silver prints “El Capitan, Winter, Yosemite National Park” and “Morning, Merced River Canyon, Yosemite National Park, 1950,” printed in the 1970s, with each signed in ink on the mount (est. $3,000-5,000); as well as William Wegman’s “Seated Burner, 1989,” a signed, unique color Polaroid print (est. $2,500-3,000); and Brett Weston’s “Nude in Pool, Carmel Valley, California, 1978,” a signed gelatin silver print (est. $2,200-3,000).

Highlights for the art collector will include a Hudson River School oil on canvas of “Two figures on a country path at sunset” (est. $4,000-6,000); Beniamino Benvenuto Bufano’s “Hand of Peace,” of bronze and enamel on a wooden base (est. $2,000-3,000); and Alphonse Mucha’s “Zdenka Cerný (R.W. 102), 1913,” a color lithograph on wove paper (est. $2,500-3,500).

To follow a major sale of Native American art at Bonhams, December 3, the auction will also introduce the Lorenzo “Gordon” Fritz Collection of Bolivian textiles. Gathered in situ over the last 20-plus years, the Fritz Collection will provide a comprehensive look at clothing, blankets and ritual textiles from the Colonial period into the 20th century.

Rounding out the auction’s highlights will be furnishings, including an early 19th century Empire gilt bronze mounted mahogany commode (est. $2,500-3,500); an early 19th century Empire gilt bronze mounted mahogany secrétaire à abattant (est. $1,800-2,500); and a Spanish/Italian Baroque walnut table, composed mainly of 17th century elements (est. $1,800-2,500).

The sale’s illustrated catalogue will be available online in the weeks preceding it, for review and purchase at www.bonhams.com/perioddesignusa.com.
