SOMERSET, UK.- Architect and designer Robert Yorke Goodden, died. He was born Over Compton, Dorset, on May 7, 1909. He was a key figure in the resurgence of British design in the period after the second world war. As professor of silversmithing and jewellery at the Royal College of Art from 1948 to 1974, he nurtured a whole new tradition of metalwork design. It is largely due to Goodden’s benign influence that modern British silver acquired a versatility and confidence not seen in Britain since the 18th century.
