NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams will offer a Prominent Private Collection of Fine Jewelry on April 15 at the Madison Avenue saleroom. Amassed over several decades, the 82 lot collection exudes the confidence and glamour of its owner, a noted philanthropist and an undisputed member of the jet set.
The collector of these jewels is a woman of great taste and distinguished style, who had personal relationships with a number of jewelers, including Harry Winston, Bulgari, Sabbadini and David Webb. She collected beautiful pieces of excellent quality to wear and enjoy, explained Susan Abeles, Bonhams US Head of Jewelry. We are honored to offer this exceptional collection.
Bold color characterizes the collection, exemplified by an eye-catching Bulgari ring set with a rectangular brilliant-cut natural fancy intense yellow diamond weighing 21.07 carats and mounted in eighteen karat gold (est. $550,000-750,000). The ring pairs excellently with a Bulgari colored diamond bracelet composed of twenty-two rectangular diamonds, total weight 46.83 carats, in eighteen karat gold (est. $200,000-300,000).
The sale also includes an emerald and diamond Bulgari bead necklace, which is as notable for its gorgeous uniform green color as it is for the 104 carefully graduated emerald beads that make up its masterful composition (est. $200,000-300,000). A Sabbadini necklace and earclip set from 2003 daringly alternates between graduated coral beads and faceted emerald beads, giving this unforgettable ensemble an equally striking palette (est. $25,000-35,000).
Key pieces central to the owners renowned personal style will also be offered. Her favorite piece of jewelry, an eighteen karat gold and ancient coin Bulgari necklace from Rome was a wardrobe staple (est. $15,000-20,000). Also up for auction will be her signature Bulgari eighteen karat gold and diamond minaudiere, circa 1965 (est. $10,000-15,000). Accompanied by a rainbow of colorful tassels, this purse regularly accompanied her to elegant evening soirees.
This beautiful collection speaks to the fashion of the times, when the owner paired her jewels with couture by Valentino, Hermès, Bob Mackie, and Bill Blass, said Virginia Salem, Director of the Jewelry Department at Bonhams in New York.
Other highlights include a pear-shaped diamond solitaire ring weighing 7.04 carats, D color, VS1 clarity, and signed Winston (est. $250,000-350,000), a pair of Harry Winston diamond earclips (est. $60,000-80,000), a beautifully crafted diamond Cartier Maillion Panthere bracelet (est. $50,000-70,000), and two South Sea cultured pearl necklaces by Bulgari (est. $25,000-35,000 and $20,000-30,000).
