PARIS.- Galerie Jaeger Bucher announce the death of its artist Michael Biberstein who passed away on Sunday 5th of May, victim of a cerebrovascular accident in his Alentejo house in Portugal.

His relentless creation focused on landscape, not a real landscape but one found in the spirit, where a man's quest for the meaning of his existence and his deeper self, placed us in front of a "Resonance of Silence" (title of his last exhibition at the gallery).
The chromatic breathing of his paintings as well as their relation to Physical phenomena increased our sensorial experience as much by universal space that overtakes us than the intimate space which contains us. "What rational intelligence does not accept any longer, said the artist, painting admits it the same way as music, for example, since borders are abolished."

Michael Biberstein had been recently fully dedicated to a project dear to him - to create a sky for the Lisbon Church Santa Isabel in the Lapa district of Lisbon - completed in 1765 without its painted roof, due to a lack of budget. Referring to this Church, Michael would say that it was " a precious stone kept inside a black box with a dark grey lid".

A great scholar and deeply touched by the sacred sites he had visited during his numerous trips, Michael Biberstein had recently presented the scale model 1:8 of his Sky for Santa Isabel 2 years ago, and the budget had now been gathered so he could begin the first phase of this Grand Oeuvre in May.

We join in mourning his wife and his family as well as all his friends who appreciated the artist as much for his authenticity and simplicity as for his infinite culture.
