VIRGINIA.- Jack Dailey, director of the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, stated that construction of the Udvar-Hazy Center is ahead of schedule. The structure of the hangar is 62 percent compete, it is 10 stories high. Dailey stated, ’This is going to be an architecturally stunning facility. All of those steel trusses are unsupported. The design is exquisite.’ According to museum officials the new structure will allow the Smithsonian to display 80 percent of its collection. The museum is planned to open on December 2003 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the first flight at Kitty Hawk, N.C.
