Sotheby’s presents a stellar line-up of rare offerings at its Hong Kong Autumn Sales 2013 taking place from 4 to 8 October at Hall 3, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The sale series will include Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art, Fine Chinese Paintings, Early Ink Masters’ Paintings, 20th Century Chinese Art, Contemporary Asian Art, Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings, Jewellery, Watches and Wines. Selected highlights will be showcased in travelling exhibitions in Jakarta (30 – 31 August), Shanghai (4 – 5 September), Beijing (7 – 8 September), Singapore (13 – 14 September), Bangkok (16 – 17 September), Taipei (21 – 22 September) and Kaohsiung (24 – 25 September), followed by a public exhibition of all of the properties on offer at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 3 to 7 October.

4 October: Domaine Clarence Dillon: Wines Direct from the Cellars of Château Haut-Brion – Château Quintus – Château La Mission Haut-Brion
This is the very first time that Domaine Clarence Dillon – the owner of Château Haut-Brion, the Bordeaux First Growth, and Château La Mission Haut-Brion, as well as the recently acquired St. Émilion estate, Château Quintus – offers treasures direct from their cellars through an auction in Asia. Estimated at HK$11.4 – 16.4 million / US$1.5 – 2.1 million, 550 lots from 1891 to 2012 – all of which have never left the Châteaux – will be offered. The sale also includes an exquisite wooden wine console designed by HRH Prince Robert of Luxembourg, President of Domaine Clarence Dillon, and Linley of London which will be auctioned to benefit Médecins San Frontières Hong Kong.

This magnificent collection features 300 lots estimated at HK$14 – 20 million / US$1.8 – 2.6 million. EARLY INK MASTERS｜5 OCTOBER
The dedicated sale Early Ink Masters continues the Chinese literati tradition in the contemporary era. The sale presents works by early masters of Chinese ink painting who established their careers abroad in the 20th century, featuring Chen Qikuan, Fang Zhaolin, He Huaishuo, Li Yihong, Liu Guosong, Lu Shoukun, Wang Jiqian, Zheng Weiguo and Zhou Luyun. As ambassadors of both traditional Chinese and Western modern art techniques, these artists embody the nature of change in contemporary China and its diaspora. The selection of works articulates the philosophy of the literati tradition within the contemporary milieu, with the hope to create unexpected perceptions and raise provocative juxtapositions of art and culture.

In celebration of its 40th anniversary in Asia, Sotheby’s Hong Kong is privileged to present Awakening Spring: An Exhibition of Significant Works by Wu Guanzhong, an extraordinary collection of ink paintings by renowned modern Chinese artist, Wu Guanzhong, during the Autumn Sale Series 2013. The 40 museum-quality works exhibited come from a distinguished private collection, The Low Gallery, which features the most important assemblage of Wu’s ink paintings in private hands. Together, this special anthology showcases the artist’s most significant and defining works created at the height of his career, notably An Old Town of the Jiaohe, 1981, and Wisteria, 1990. Selected paintings will be on view at an extended exhibition at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery from 10 to 20 October.
