RALEIGH, NC.- The North Carolina Museum of Art has amassed a collection of nearly 650 works by North Carolina artists. The NCMA is presenting a selection of these acquisitions in its North Carolina Gallery. Close to Home: A Decade of Acquisitions includes paintings, photographs, sculptures, and mixed-media works acquired by the Museum in the last 10 years.

“As the state art museum, the North Carolina Museum of Art is firmly committed to presenting and promoting the work of artists from here,” says Lawrence J. Wheeler, director of the NCMA. “Our frequent temporary exhibitions in the North Carolina Gallery are a testament to our ongoing commitment to provide visitors with a broad view of the variety of work created by North Carolina artists, and to put that work in a global context.”

Close to Home features work by well-known favorites such as Bob Trotman, Beverly McIver, and George Bireline alongside brand-new works on view for the first time by artists such as Linda Foard Roberts, John Rosenthal, Peter Glenn Oakley, and Anne Lemanski. “We are thrilled to be able to showcase the work of a variety of North Carolina artists and hope that visitors attend to reintroduce themselves to works they’ve seen and loved in previous exhibitions and to discover new local treasures in our collection,” says Jennifer Dasal, associate curator of contemporary art at the NCMA.

The exhibition is presented in two rotations: the first rotation is on view August 18, 2013, through February 9, 2014, and the second rotation is on view February 16, 2014, through August 10, 2014.
