MARSEILLE.- Three months after its opening to the public, the
MuCEM will host this weekend on the 14th and 15th of September its one millionth visitor.
It only took three months for MuCEM to accommodate a million visitors. Conceived as a place of life, a cultural center in the heart of Marseille, the MuCEM has proved that it has already been adopted by the locals which represent nearly 50% of its visitors.
For the Chairman of MuCEM Bruno Suzzarelli, welcoming the millionth visitor is a symbol both for the MuCEM and for the attractiveness of Marseille:
"We are trying to prove that there is an exceptional cultural appetite in Marseille. We are very pleased to see that the dynamic MuCEM fully embodies the heart of a changing neighborhood. There will always be something to see, to hear and to discuss at Mucem - we want every visitor to feel at home. We wanted it to be an open and generous place, it is a joy to see families, friends and lovers there! "
A symbol of the continuity of the cultural excitement initiated by Marseille-Provence the European Capital of Culture, MuCEM - in just three months is now one of the 50 most visited museums in the world.

Since June 7th, 2013, 1,000,000 visitors have been to MuCEM including:
63,000 visitors in 3 days, on the occasion of the inauguration on the 7th, 8th and 9th of June 2013.
an average of 12,000 visitors a day in July / August.
300,000 entries in the exhibition space:
nearly 150,000 come from the region of Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur (50%)
nearly 93,000 are from France (excluding Provence-Alpes Côte d'Azur) (31%)
nearly 60,000 from abroad (19%)
Reminder: This is the first time that the state has promoted the creation of a national museum in the region. The Ministry of Culture and Communication has given a new lease of life to Marseille, which now has one of the most beautiful collections of museum in France. The MuCEM was inaugurated by the President of the Republic on the 4th of June 2013.
