CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.- Chinese art historian Wilma Cannon Fairbank, 92, died. She studied fine arts at Radcliffe College. Before traveling to Beijing in 1932 she was an apprentice to the Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. Once in Beijing she married John King Fairbank, who later became the leading scholar of modern China in the United States. She became a member of China’s Institute for Research in Chinese Architecture. In 1995 she published ’Liang and Lin: Partners in Exploring China’s Architectural Past,’ a biography of a Chinese couple who were groundbreaking scholars.
