Sothebys hosts a selling exhibition of works by globally renowned Italian sculptor and conceptual artist, Giuseppe Penone, entitled When Man Meets Nature. Presenting 36 works, this selling exhibition is one of the biggest shows of its kind in New York and features all mediums of his work including bronze, stone, photography and works on paper. As a member of the Italian modern art movement Arte Povera, Penone aims to integrate art with nature. When Man Meets Nature opens in New York during an exciting time for the artist. He is the subject of a key solo exhibition at Le Château de Versailles in Paris, France, running now through the end of October called Penone Versailles, and three of his sculptures will be on view in Madison Square Park in New York beginning on 26 September 2013. Penones work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Tokyo, Japan and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Giuseppe Penone (b. 1947) lives and works in Turin and Paris. Penone was the recipient of the Rolf Schock Prize for Visual Arts in 2001 and has exhibited internationally at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Documenta 13, Germany; Musée des Arts Contemporains, Belgium; Museo dArte Moderna di Bologna, Italy; the Venice Biennial; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Jardin des Tuileries, Paris; La Reggia di Venaria Reale, Torino, Italy; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia; Tate Gallery of Modern Art, London; and the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan.
