MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA.- The renovations at the Bass Museum of Art have lasted four years, when they were supposed to take 18 months, reproted the Miami Herald. Themuseum’s executive director, Diane Camber, stated ’It’s beyond our control and it is having a financial impact, but nevertheless we anticipate it will get better.’ Some critics have stated that the cultural importance of the museum has been undermined because the museum has been closed for four years. The museum used cash reserves to face the $500,000 shoretfall it had this year. But Camber stated that the reserves could end by September. Pauline Winick, chair of the Miami Beach Cultural Arts Council, stated, ’you can’t really say we’re this cultural vicinity when one of your main components of it is virtually closed...For those of us who are promoting all of Miami Beach as a cultural district. It’s this black hole of the non-opened Bass Museum.’
