NEW YORK, NY.- A solo show of etchings by Tina Eisenbeis and a group show of original hand-pulled fine art prints begin an exciting 2014 for
Manhattan Graphics Center. Opening Saturday January 11th, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at MGC, a nearly 30-year-old workshop, school and gallery devoted to the craft of fine art printmaking. In the tradition of the alternative artist collectives that once dotted SoHo, MGC rose from the ashes of the former Pratt Institute Print shop. When the shop was closed several teachers struck out on their own committed to offering an accessible workspace to continue to practice and instruct in their chosen techniques.
With a move to 250 West 40th Street near Times Square three years ago, the center remains a true community staffed entirely by volunteers and for printmakers not just in New York, but worldwide featuring a comprehensive schedule of classes, art openings and artist talks throughout the year as well as the most affordable artist studio time in Manhattan. We run an art-in-public-high schools program in which instructors bring a portable press and the art of printmaking to school underserved in arts instruction. The students are also invited to come work at MGC and show their work in conjunction with the Fashion Center BID found space initiative.
Tina Eisenbeis studied at the New York Studio School with Frederic Thursz, Jean Detheux, and David Reed; and was also assistant to Milton Resnick. Her art is represented in a number of collections, including the Tucson Museum of Art. A Member Emeritus of The Painting Center, her work has also been included in its exchange shows in Barcelona and Dublin. She shows recent etching of a fertile nature.
Thematically curated around the concept of singularity by Eileen Zyko, currently a Masters Candidate at NYU Steinhardt, artists representing all forms of printmaking included in 1 / one are diverse and international mixture of members and non-members of MGC: Abby Dubow, Ana Cvejic, Beatrice Barden, Bette Bates, Betty Wilde Biasiny, Daniel Labovitz, David W.
