HONG KONG.- 30 years after opening a small representative office in Hong Kong, Christie's will inaugurate a brand new space on the 22nd floor of Alexandra House, on 28th February, 2014. This state-of-the-art multi-purpose gallery is named after Christie’s founder, James Christie (1730-1803), and follows in the same spirit as similar spaces developed by Christie's in London, Paris and New York. With sweeping views of Victoria Harbour and over 250 square meters of viewing rooms, it offers the capability to hold uniquely curated exhibitions, educational Art Forums, sponsored and charity events, private sales, and auctions of specialty categories.

To mark this occasion, a special exhibition has been organized showing “the Best of the Best” in many collecting fields, from Christie's forthcoming auctions in Hong Kong, London and New York, as well as works of art for private sale and simply on exhibition. It covers Asian 20th Century & Contemporary Art, Chinese Paintings, Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art, Jewellery, Watches, Post-War & Contemporary Art, Impressionist & Modern Art and more. Highlights include paintings from Asian artists Chu Teh-Chun (B. 1920), Liu Kuo-Sung (B. 1932), Xu Beihong (1895 – 1953) and Zeng Fanzhi (B. 1964), to artworks by Western artists Ruth Asawa (1926 – 2013), Claude Monet (1840 – 1926), Camille Pissarro (1830 – 1903), Gerhard Richter (B. 1932) and Andy Warhol (1928 –1987). The works will be shown until 15th March, 2014.

In recent years, collectors in Asia have expressed a growing interest in the world of art and auctions. 2013 saw auctions results from Christie’s Hong Kong increase by 30%, with buyers from Greater China representing 22% of total global sales. In response to this demand, Christie’s continues to develop innovative ways for clients to connect and engage in this dynamic art market. With the ability to exhibit on a continuous basis in the James Christie Room, Christie’s will be better positioned to provide art collectors and art lovers access to world-class works from salerooms all over the globe.
